Disconnect
When something happens like having the network down at work, you both curse your dependence on technology and pine for the days when you used to rely on your brain to get things done rather than your computer. Watching a show like ‘Mad Men’, where they have clean desks to do their work from each day (instead of half a desk and a machine) just drives the point home further. Oh well. I still have part of my brain that doesn’t require a PC. I know how to spell without relying on red squiggly lines- that must be an asset in a post apocalyptic world. For some reason, for years I also kept a frisbee and a pack of Uno cards at my desk for such an occasion, so I have bigger bargaining power than most other people
I also have mobile internet, and therefore information, and therefore power over everyone else in the office, too. But that negates the whole ‘can live without technology’ argument.
So you do those few rainy day things that you don’t need a computer for, or won’t result in you having to retype things into a computer once it’s back up. My desk is now so clean, you can see your reflection off it. The filing is done (except for the things that need to go into the computer before they are filed. You know… procrastination stuff.
