I hate my new work computer
Finally yesterday I was in a position to move my stuff over from my old computer at work to my new computer. New is really not the way to describe it, because it’s been someone elses’ before.
With computers, more than anything else, I believe in the phrase “You sleep with dogs; you wake up with fleas”. And this thing has seen some skanky bitches in it’s past, because it’s awful.
My other computer was older, but it ran better. Why? BECAUSE I TREAT COMPUTERS WITH RESPECT.
Problems so far:
- Takes half an hour to start
- If you Ctrl-Alt-Del and then cancel out you lose the start menu
- If you try and start any of the Office Apps from the start menu it goes all “This is only valid for products that are currently installed”. But it’s installed, and you can open them via the long way. But when you start it it shows up in the recently opened apps in the Start menu. But if you click on that it goes all “This is only valid for products that are currently installed”. And the cycle continues.
- You can’t convert Acrobat files using the buttons in Word- you can only use PDFWriter
- It uses IE7, which has its menu bar in some mongaloid place.
- That version of IE7 decided to disable cookies by default, which meant it thinks that all of the addons (and I’m talking Citrix here, not some non- work related thing) aren’t installed.
- It doesn’t handle more than one app open at a time at all well.
Oh, yes, I’m going to have fun.
