Hot Phuz.

Last night I got to go to a preview screening of Hot Fuzz, with a Q&A session with Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright and Nick Frost.

Now I could show you pictures of them at this point, or tell you what they smelt like or any of that crap, but I have nothing. I’m not an autograph hunter nor a celebrity stalker, and I have to admit I’m a bit blasé about seeing those sort of people in the flesh. So I leave it to others to get excited. My shtick with them is treating them like normal.

… Which was obviously not something available to the Hot Fuzz/ Shaun of the Dead guys in this case. They’re on the media tour at the moment, and seem to be doing a lot of public appearances (as I’m sure the geek in them knows how to treat their fans). And my overriding feeling from the Q&A, informative and funny as it was, was that that looked absolutely knackered. It felt just a little bit like show time at the zoo, too, with the MC making them jump through hoops before they let some members from the audience do the same.

At least the crowd weren’t trying to impress the guys, unlike in the Kevin Smith Q&A after Clerks II. At times that was embarassing.

Anyway, I guess I’d better quickly discuss the film, then. Very funny, go see it. I think Shaun of the Dead was a ‘better’ film in a lot of ways; but that was more a result of the genre of material they were working on and that they could get more out of a smaller cast. But it’s well worth the admission fee.
